4:00pm – 6:00pm EDT
CLACS and the Haitian Creole Language of New York present the annual Mother Tongues United, featuring a workshop with Well Fed Apothecary CEO Wilnise Francois and a conversation with professor Wynnie Lamour (Kreyòl at NYU).
Join Wilnise Francois for a detailed materia medica of the wild native plants found in Ayiti and their relationship to the United States; specifically in herbal literature as well as their cultural influence for Ayisyen Ameriken and their influence on the South. Wilnise will discuss her journey to becoming a healing practitioner and how her Haitian roots help to frame her practice. Her discussion will focus on remembering Ayiti and the land through the plants. Participants will come away with a deeper understanding of what healing looks like in a Haitian context and its impact on the Dyaspora Ayisyen.
Wilnise Francois is a Ayisien-American Licensed Nurse and Herbalist that has worked in the modality of healing for over a decade. Her role as an herbalist expanded with the personal need and integration of herbal medicines from her coveted traditional Haitian practices and studies in Western herbalism. As a community herbalist, she is working to revolutionize the cultural affinity of our plant friends through our relationships with the earth and stars. Her aim is to integrate the very love our herbs show us and implement that essence into our daily lives.
The event is open to the public and will take place in both Kreyòl & English.
